FEBRUARY GRADING RETURNS.
The grading returns for hemp, low, stripper tow, and stripper slips for the month of February have been issued by the Department of Agriculture is ns follows:
graded line. One hundred and twenty-seven bales at Auckland, 100 at. Wellington and 120 at Foxton were rejected. The number of bales in eaah grade were as follows, the number for the corresponding period of last year being given in parenthesis: — Fine 57 (116), good fair 1045 (787), high fair 3963 (5738), low fair 2555 (2696), ciommon 951 (303), rejected 347 (317), a total of 8918 bales as against (J 957 graded the same periodi last year, a decrease of 1039 bales. The number of bales graded at each port were: —Auckland 2011, Wellington 2780, Foxton 2326, Wairoa 191, Picton 93, Blenheim 54, Dunedin 86, Pt. Chalmers 206, Bluff 1107, Lyttelton 64. The following shows the detailed particulars of the tow': —
Fifty-seven bales at Auckland, 28 at Wellington, and 18 at Foxton were condemned. The following" shows the number of bales in each grade, the number for the corresponding period of last year being given in parenthesis;— Ist grade 434 (416), 2nd grade 1,584 (1895), 3rd grade 507 (533), condemned 103 (108), a total of 2628 bales as _ against 2952 bales graded the same period) last year, a decrease of 324 bales. The number of bales graded at each port were: —'Auckland 618, Wellington 703,'Foxton 522, Wairoa 64, Picton 37/ Blenheim 21, Pt. Chalmers 112, Bluff 535, Lyttelton 13, Dunedin 3. Stripper tow: —Eighteen bales at Wellington were graded Ist grade, two hundred and eighty-eight bales at Wellington and 30 at Foxton were graded 2nd grade. Twentyeight bales at Auckland and 132 at Foxiton were graded 3rd grade. A total number of 496 bales as against 336 bales graded the same period last year, showing an increase of 160 bales. . Stripper slips:—-Ten bales at Auckland, 143 at Wellington and 46 at the Bluff were graded 2nd grade. One bale at Wellington was condemned. One hundred and twentynine bales at the Bluff and 4 at Pt. Chalmers were passed: for export. The total number graded was 333 bales as against 427 bales graded < the same period last year, a decrease of 94 bales.
