CHINA EVENING.
A very pleasant social function took place at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. W. T. Jewell, Marotiri, last evening when a china evening, was tendered Miss R. Barber m anticipation of her approaching wedding. There was a large number of the prospective bride s friends present, some coming from as far afield as Halcombe.. Dancing and musici was. indulged in and a most interesting few moments was spent when the bride-to-be opened up a large “lucky packet” which contained many varied and useful presents which signified the great esteem in which she is held m the district. Mr H. Hornblow expressed the thanks of Miss Barber and himself to the donors of the gifts for their very handsome presents. All then joined in singing “For They are Jolly Good Fellows,” after which dancing was indulged in until a late hour. A wire was received from Mr <)• Linklater, M.P., apologising for his unavoidable absence.
