LON CHANEY IN “THE BLACKBIRD.”
London's Liinehouse district, with its seas of fog- and stream of human wreeiks, is pictui-ed with intense vividness in “The Blackbird,” the new Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer starring picture lor Lon Chaney. It will be screened at the Town Hall to-night. The famous star- hus an amazing dual role, and gives a portrayal even more startling than his memorable work as Quasimodo, “The Hunchback of Notre Dame.” One character lie depicts is that of a crippled mission worker- —a really extraordinary and baffling feat that at times suggests the overcoming of physical impossibilities. Owen Moore and Renee Adoree are the other leading players. Also comedy ? “His Private Life,” a N.Z. film scenic and the latest Pathe News. Prices as usual. ( ' A George Barr MeCutcheon novel of fame in “A Pool and his Money,” screens on Monday. It tells of A fortune dropped into the lap of a romantic young writer, and the first thing he did was to buy a castle in Europe that he had never seen. Incidentally he bought trouble as well and that gives us the plot of au exciting and amusing picture.
On Thursday, March 17 th, a grand ball will be held in the Town Hall under the auspices of St. Marys’ Church. Music is to be supplied by Pepper’s select Orchestra while the catering arrangements are being well looked to. Patrons are assured of a good time at this ball.
