ROAD IMPROVEMENTS IN FOXTON.
The BoroughJiOouncil must be com mended for its policy of road sealing by contract. W Q have seen during the past two months, rough potholed roads turned into smooth running pavements. The Council has certainly been fortunate in its choice of contractors for in British Pavements Ltd., they have the services of long standing and experienced engineers.
The speed at which work can be done when materials are at hand is amazing. Already the whole of the streets under the contract have received the first or binding coat and a start was made on Thursday last with the second or sealing Coat, which should be finished in about three weeks time.
The footways have received their dressing of “res mex” and chips and ( show a greatly improved surface. It is a great pity that so many cows are allowed to be at large on the streets. Their feet disturb the footpath dressing and consequently delay tho setting' of the work. In some cases it has almost been destroyed completely. The contractors are very enterprising in that they will carry out the construction and surfacing of hard tennis courts, which are now > becoming so increasingly popular owing to their all the - year round utility. The use of bitumen for tennis courts is quite a new departure and has many obvious advantages over the ordinary type, in that bitumen is a dustless surfacing and is more “live” to the player and less tiring. Bitumen surfacing is now being very largely used for private drives and paths owing to its excellent wearing qualities and pleasing neat appearance.
