LAND SALE
THE LATE 0. ROBINSON’S ESTATE.
RESERVES NOT REACHED
Yesterday afternoon three farms in the estate of the late Mr. £). Robinson,/were offered, for sale by public auction' at the Town Hall by Messrs' Abraham and Williams Ltd., and the N.Z. Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd., joint auctioneers. There was a large attendance of local and district farmers and the Wairarapa was represented by two farmers.
The terms of sale were very reasonable being ten per cent, on the fall of the hammer; ten per cent, on 14th March 1927, when posses; sion would be given; five per cent, in 12 months time and the balance in five years, at six per cent.
Reserves were, placed on all three farms but these were not disclosed.
The first farm offered for sale was that of 728 acres, part sections 327 and 328, Carnarvon district, Block XIII, T'e Kawau Survey District, and situated at the rear of the Government plantations on the Himitangi road about 1J miles north of Motuiti railway station. The farm is subdivided into seven paddocks and nearly all of the land is flat and of good quality with one whare on it. ' i;(/v The first offer received was of £9 per acre. This amount, was then raised by 10/- bids to £lO 10s, a five shilling,,bid, to, £lO 15s and finally a half-crown bid to £lO 17s 6d. The price not,. being... satisfactory the property was withdrawn. The next farm put up for sale was of 100 acres freehold, situated about 1 mile from Foxton on the L'evin-Foxton Road and No. 2 Line (known as Nye’s farm) comprised of rich fattening country house and outbuildings; subdivided with an old habitable six-roomed into six paddocks and containing good plantations and walnut orchard. , Bidding was started at £35 per acre, which rose in one bid to £3B and then by £1 bids to £4O and finally £4O 10s, where, the reserve not being reached, the property was withdrawn from sale.
The last property placed under the hammer was that of 98 acres 3 roods 3 perches, situated one mile from Foxton on the Levin-Fox-ton Road and No. 2 line having no buildings but. fattening land. Difficulty was "experienced in obtaining a bid for this property but it was finally started at the same price as the last lot, namely,£3s. This was raised by a single bid of £L to £36 where bidding ceased aiid this,,property t .glso, withdrawn.
