Manawatu Herald THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 17, 1927 LOCAL AND GENERAL. PUBLIC SWIMMING BATHS.
THE Borough Council's unanimity ;it lasl meeting in connection with the fixation of a site for public swimming baths, and the Council's action in authorising plans and specifications for the work 'with the object of having the baths constructed with the least possible delay. should remove any misgivings of opposition from the local governing authority. Indeed Councillors appeared ' to he .just as keen to see the baths constructed as those whet were responsible for raising the £9oo' odd.' The matter is now in the hands of the engineer whose instructions are to keep the expenditure within the limit of the fund. This does not mean that, the baths will be fully equipped with all necessary conveniences. These will have to be provided in the future by special effort and the co-opera-tion of the swimming club. Once the baths are established the Council will take them over and draw up regulations for their control. Tin; Council, is to be commended for its hearty co-operation with the public in the matter and it will be a great relief to know that ere long our young people will be able to indulge in swimming without fear of accident.
