HIMATANGI-RANGIOTU HIGHWAY.

'Complaints as to the condition of the Wbirokino-HLmitangi section and the Himitangi-Raugiotn section of the Main Highway were received from the Public Works Department at yesterday’s meeting of the Manawatu County .Council. The sections of road referred to have reference to a lengfli of Foxton Line.

The first letter stated that numerous complaints have lately been received with regard to the condition of, this road, more especially between Foxton Borough and Ilimitangi and asked for an early report on the total cost of maintenance on this strip of' road from March last to December 31. The second letter also reported that numerous complaints had . been received as to the unsatisfactory condition of the other section referred to and a report as to the cost of maintenance was asked for. The chairman (Cr. W. E. Barber) asked the County Engineer whether lie could supply the information. Mr. G. Hick-ford* (County Engineer), said that he could not say what it had cost. He had increased the maintenance expenditure on the sections referred to, but this had not helped the position. After a discussion, it was decided to supply information right away and the hope was expressed that the Highway’s Board would prove sympathetic.
