RENOWN DEPARTS FROM MARQUESAS.
1 Melbourne, February 12. A wireless message received from the Renown states that a missionary named Del mas, who remembered R. L. Stevenson’s sojourn on the island, visited the ship bearing gifts of fruit. He gave some intercjfting reminiscences of the old cannibal days and feasting places. The French Administrator paid a. final official call of farewell to the Duke and Duchess during the afternoon. The Duke, in presenting him with a souvenir of the visit, expressed his gratitude for all he had done. He also sent a message to the Governor of Papeete, warmly appreciating courtesies shown to the Renown. Late in the afternoon the natives clustered on all the vantage points ashore, saw a fine bit of ship handling. There being not much room to swing, the Renown was turned almost in her own length apparently as easy as a fery boat. She then swung to sea at the rate of fifteen knots.
