A number of sawmills in the Hokitika district have been compelled to close down owing to lack of orders, throwing a large number of men out of employment. “If I have evidence that a publican fakes his lodgers’ hook in order to evade the law, I will have no compunction in endorsing his license.” said Mr Mowlem, S.M., during the hearing of a liquor case in Grevtown.
The Shannon Borough Council are convening a public meeting next week to discuss a scheme and estimate of cost for tin l construction of public swimming baths in the Domnin.
