FOXTON HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY.

SPECIAL MEETING

A special meeting of the above Society was held in Ross’s Rooms last night, presided over by the President (Mr. D. Christie). Also present were Mesdames A. P. Easton, McMurray, Misses A. Speirs, .J. Ross, Messrs W. E. Bullard Jnr., Ross, Peryman, Poole, Tver, R. Hornblow and W. Nye. An apology for absence was received from Mrs. Baker.

The object of the meeting was to decide whether an Autumn Show be held this year. The President said that years ago an Autumn Show was always held. The show had probably been discontinued owing to the dryness of the season. Now that water is laid on this factor did not come into the question. Personally be thought that it was rather late this year to hold one. The Society had certain properties yet to procure for show purposes and he did not think that they could be obtained in time for an Autumn Show.

The secretary then gave an outline of the financial success or otherwise of previous shows, which on the whole, disclosed unsatisfactory financial statements. The last autumn show was -held in 1919.

The President reported that when the Society’s properties were obtained there would still remain a credit balance of £35.

Mr W. Nye said that the ground was fairly wet below the surface yet, after the recent heavy rains. He did not favour.holding an autumn show this year, however. Mr. Nye then moved, seconded pro forma by Mr Peryman, that no autumn show be held this year.

Mrs McMurray said that no better year than the present one could be obtained for holding an autumn show.

Miss Ross said that a number of people outside the committee would like to see an autumn show.

Mr Tyer considered the season was too far advanced for a show this year.

The motion was put to the meeting the lost, the question to be reviewed at annual meeting.
