NEW PRAYER BOOK.
LANGUAGE TONED DOWN
London, January 31
Tlie “Daily News” says regarding (lie revised Prayer Boole, which is to he published on 7th February, that demands for copies are coining in from all over the country. It will be found that the bishops have aimed at greater elasticity in a spirit of compromise. The .most controversial question, the reservation of the sacrament, has been compromised, many bishops who opposed alteration consenting to a reservation for the sick for the sake of peace, but the changes do not imply a tendency toward the practices of the Church of Rome. From the marriage ceremony has been deleted the word obey, and say: “Love, cherish, and serve.” The references to carnal lusts and appetites are deleted, and there is a similar toning down of the language in the churching of mothers.
