BREACH OF SHOPS’ ACT.
“.JUST OBLIGE’EM.” CHINESE STOREKEEPER FINED
At yesterday’s S.M. Court, before Mr. J. L. Stout, S.M., the Inspector of ’ Factories proceeded against Joe Bing, late fruiterer and confectioner, of Foxton, for failing lo observe the Statutory half holiday.
Inspector Davis and Lowden gave evidence a* to the shop having been kept open on Wednesday, 15th December and as to having purchased cigarettes from defendant the following day, thus proving that he kept cigarettes and should therefore have closed tor half a (lay on Wednesday.
Asked if he had anything to say, defendant admitted being open but said he did not stock cigarettes. He had purchased a few packets from the hotel and just sold them to customers to ‘‘oblige ’uni.” The S.M.: Wlell, you will be fined £1 with costs 10/- for “obliging ’urn.”
