THE RECENT BURGLARIES

THREE BROTHERS ARRESTED AT LEVIN. CHARGED WjITH THEFT AT OTAKI. REMANDED TO APPEAR AT PALMERSTON. Quite a sensation was caused in Levin yesterday when it was made known that three men had been arrested in connection with the recent burglaries at the Levin and Linton railway stations, and Otaki Dairy Factory. The men arrested are: —Laurence Egmont Windsor (aged 30), Albert George Windsor (42), and Joseph Frederick Windsor (28). They had arrived in the district just before the burglaries occurred, and occupied a bouse at Alanakau, where they wore located at an early hour on Thursday morning and taken in custody by Senior DetectiveSergeant Quirke and Detective Russell, of Palmerston, who were accompanied in the search by Constable Satliei'H'v, of Otaki, and Constable Cosgrove, oi Levin. I|ho “wanted” men were in po&ession of two ears—a Chevrolet and a Ford —also some explosives. From Manakau the men were taken to Wellington, where they were interviewed by the police, and yesterday morning they were brought to Levin and arrested on the charge of breaking, entering and theft at Otaki, and appeared before Messrs S. Lancaster and T. Brown J’sP.

The charge made against the three was, that on' or about .January 301 b, at Otaki, they did break and outer the premises of the Otaki Dairy . Factory and steal t herefrom ,penny and half-penny stamps to (lie value of £l, the property of the Otaki Dairy Company,. Ltd. Detective-Sergeant Quirke asked that the accused be remanded to appear at Wellington on Friday next. He stated that a further remand would thyn be applied for, to Palmerston North. When the men were asked if they had any objection’ to make, Joseph Windsor said lie would like the ease to be gone on with if possible. lint the Bench pointed out that it could not be dealt witli in this court. .

The remand was granted and the accused taken to Wellington.'
