ARTILLERY CAMP NOTES.
The health of the men of the 19th Battery (Wellington) in ,camp at the racecourse is excellent. At a previous camp the artesian waiter affected some of the men, but it is thought that the indisposition would have been avoided had a quantity of the water been allowed to run through (lie pipes prior to use. The men put in their spare time in town and last night a large number attended the Cabaret at the. Town Hall. The conduct of the men off parade is exemplary. SPORTS MEETING AND “AT HOME.” ON SATURDAY. A big military tattoo is to he held in Wellington at an early Mate and, in order to raise funds in connection with same, a queen carnival is being held. The 19th Battery, at present in camp, in conjunction with the other Wellington artillery units, have nominated a queen candidate, Miss Norwood, and while in camp will endeavour to arouse local public interest in their candidate’s behalf. On Saturday a monster sports meeting and “At Home” will be held on the racecourse, to which the general public is invited. Admission to Saturday’s gathering which will commence at 2.30 p.m. will be by the purchase of an artillery button fid each.
Among the attractions will be rides on the biggest vaterpiller tractors in- the Dominion, wireless messages, side shows, and the witnessing of the guns in action. Afternoon tea will also be provided. See advertisement appearing elsewhere in this issue. artillery dance. A dance, under the auspices of the 19th Battery will he held in the Masonic Hall on Monday evening. First-class music will be rendered bv the. Battery’s jazz band, while the catering arrangements will be in the hands of Walls’. Admission 2s fid and Is Gd. It is probable that the Publicity Department’s movie photographer will visit the camp on Saturday for the purpose of securing photos of the camp.
