THEFT FROM RAILWAY.
CLERK GETS PROBATION
At the Palmerston N. Police Court yesterday morning, A|len Matthew Greig, aged 38, a married man with two young childres, and an ex-clerk at'the Palmerston N. railway department, pjleaded iguilty to the theft on October 10,1920, and on divers dates between October 10 and October 30. of five sums of money totalling £2O, the property of the Railway Department. p Accused ut'trihuted lit appropriation to family sickness, and stated that lie returned part of the money before the theft was discovered. Both the police and station master spoke in accused s invour that he had borne a good record of service. The Magistrate, in view of the * circumstances, admitted accused to probation for two years.. Suppression of the name was refused.
