MUSIC AT THE RACES.
WtHY THE SILVER BAM) DIDN’T PLAY. The secretary of the Foxton Silver Band requests us to publish the following 1 correspondence which passed between the Band and the Foxton Racing Club in order to clear up certain incorrect statements as to the Band’s refusal to play at the races:— October 29th, from Secretary Racing Club to Band. —I shall be pleased to learn y»ur terms for providing music at our-meeting to be held on the 21st and 22nd January next. Please state number of players and also submit programme. From secretary Band to Racing Club (no date) —I am instructed by my committee to write and inform you that the Band will provide a programme of music at your forthcoming meeting on the 21st and 22nd January on the same terms as the Band played for at your last meeting, £25 for the two days, ladies tickets both days, and luncheon tickets for the players in the Band. There will be a Band, of 20 players. Mr 11. Osborne (bandmaster) will submit to you a programme of music for. the meeting. November 22nd, from Secretary Racing Club to Band. —Your letter of the Bth inst., was discussed at a meeting of Committee held on the 10th inst., and it was decided to accept your terms to provide a- programme of music for our meeting at £25 for the two days and luncheon tickets for the phtvers in the Band. The committee have decided that no ladies’ tickets be provided. December Ist. From the Secretary Band to Foxton Racing Club. —I am instructed by my committee to write and thank you for your offer to engage the Foxton Silver Band, but the members of the above Band will only accept the engagement on the same terms as last year, which included ladies’ tickets to playing members in the Band. Wishing your club every success, and thanking you in anticipation. December 21st. From Secretary Racing Club to Band. —Your letter of the Ist inst., was discussed at a meeting of the Committee held last night and in reply I was instructed to inform you it mas decided to ad here to the terms of our letter of the 22nd ult. j 1 shall be pleased if you will reconsider the matter and advise my by early mail as to your decision. December 21st, from, Secretary Band to Foxton Racing Club. —Your letter of the 21st inst. was discussed at a meeting held in the bandroom, and it was decided that in regard to those terms, the Foxton Silver Band Inc. cannot accept the engagement.
