CORRESPONDENCE

(To the Editor)

Sir, —In your issue of-Saturday appears an effort by Cr. Walker to justify his opposition to swimming baths, brought about, no doubt, by my criticism of his and Cr. Wood's attitude on that question. Now, Sir, to show the electors how much Cr. Walker knows about the question is demonstrated when lie falls back on the figures quoted by the ex-Mayor. I say right here that as the water is supplied at a flat rate, whereby every ratepayer has to pay his share, that it will not cost a single penny extra to fill those baths. There is no need for an extra bore as the present wells are in good order- and capable of supplying all requirements. -That Cr. Walker should allow himself to be hoodwinked by any statement of the ex-Mayor is in no wise peculiar, as unfortunately for Foxton other Councillors have done the same. Do we elect Councillors to follow blindly the lead of one man? Also was Cr. Walker also a party to depriving oil companies of a site on the fore-shore for oil stores? And is it not a fact, that this blind following has been responsible for the absence of other industries in Foxton,.because the ex-Mayor was opposed to them, and under whose regime Foxton was starved of any forward movement. That Cr. Walker has not the slightest idea of the baths question is apparent when lie admits that the figures he used were the figures concocted by another person, who opposed anything to the advancement of Foxton. To make logical comparison with Cr. Walker’s statement, would it not also be necessary for the Fire Brigade to put all water used at a fire through a meter and all water used for all other purposes as well, and, further, what about the water used in the household hath? Does every bath need a special bore and 1/- per thousand for pumping?

Perhaps Cr. Walker will also tell me why Cr. Winstanley’s seat is unlawfully held, and also, perhaps, he could tell Us something about the piano purchase for. the Town Hall. Thanking you, Sir, ervis.
