FOXTON SILVER BAND

On Saturday evening the Foxton Silver Band held a smoke concert in Wiall’s looms, when there were about thirty bandsmen present, including representatives of the Levin band. Mr. Yeo (Chairman of the Foxton Silver band), occupied the chair and in opening proceedings said this was the first reunion the Band had had and he considered that it should at least be an annual function as to meet in social intercourse fostered a better spirit amongst the members. Mr. H. Osborne (Bandmaster), in proposing the toast of the Levin Band, referred to the good feeling of comradeship which existed between members of the two bands. He also took the opportunity to tliapk the Levin Band for the assistance they had given his band on different occasions, and assured them that the Foxton Band was always willing to assist Levin whenever required. Mr. Hesp (Drum-Major), replied on behalf of Levin and thanked Mr Osborne for the sentiments he had expressed. Ho also referred to the difficulties to be met by bands in small towns, pulling together and doing their bit to help make their town'-more pleasant to live in.

Mr. D._ Brooks proposed the toast of the Foxton Borough Council. The Bapd, he said, appreciated what the Council had hone for it in the shape of a subsidy and for providing them with a hand room. Mr. McMurray responded on behalf of the Council.

Mr. Lister (Conductor of the Levin Band) proposed the health of the Foxton Band, which was responded to by Mr. Barnett.

The toast of “Our Conductor” was proposed by Mr. C. Rand., In briefly returning thanks Mr. Osborne said it gave him great pleasure to he connected with the band. The men were very enthusiastic and some of the members travelled between two or three miles every week to attend practices. During the evening items were contributed by Messrs. Barnett, Hesp, Osborne, Brooks, East, Harris, Knewstub and Lester.
