Manawatu Herald THURSDAY, JANUARY 20, 1927. TIME PAYMENT TEMPTATIONS.
ITR( HASING goods on ilie limepnyment system is a mixed blessing. To those who require a necessity and have not the ready cash, the •system has its advantages, but to ase. the system to graify the desire to purchase a luxury may possibly end in trouble. There is a marked difference, for instance, between the purchase of a sewing machine and a piano. To the young man a motor bicycle on the time-payment system is a great ’temptation what time his wages are meagre and the consequent. non-fulfil men t of obligations is apt to lead to trouble An instance of this occurred up north recently, when a young man who had got behind with his payments, called at the dealer’s shop, stating that he wanted a receipt. for £ll he had posted previously. The dealer stated that he had not received the money, whereupon aroused went to the Central Post Office and complained that his letter had gone astray. The matter was placed in the hands of the police and inquiries led to the accused being questioned. He then admitted he had not posted the letter containing the money at all. He has now to face the Supreme Court on a charge of making a false declaration. Parental advice should steady the impulse of youth in these matters.
