AN EXCITING CHASE.
FOLLOW'S PRISONERS’ ESCAPE
ALLEGED CAR THIEVES RECAPTURED.
Auckland, January 19,
After their escape from the Hamilton police lock-up, Brewer and Curtis took a racing car from a private garage at Hamilton. They were recognised at Glen Eden by Constable Smith, who enlisted the service of a motor cyclist with a sidecar and gave chase. When be drew level with the stolen car, the two occupants jumped out. Brewer going in one direction and Curtis in the other. Curtis was soon caught, but Brewer escaped. At the Police Count Curtis was charged with escaping from lawful custody and remanded to January 21 Brewer was lo.cated in a patch, of scrub near Henderson Ibis evening by Constable Smith. As. soon as be saw the constable lie gave himself up, and showed uo opposition. He was brought to Auckland.
