IT is interesting- to note that tie: Borough Council lias taken the initial step to have the public swimming baths constructed in Eastoi Park, After some discussion on tin subject, the Council decided to obtain an estimate of the cost. Tin sum of £9OO has been contributed by the public and an expert has sta - ted that suitable baths can be laid down for this, sum, and, presumably dressing sheds. That disposes of Cr. Walker’s argument as to finance and the necessity for again asking the public to support a further el' fort. The public has 'contributed most generously towards the baths and should be relieved from am further call in this connection. Cr. Woods’ contention that the Council should take no action to construct the baths until the fund raised is transferred to the 'Couhcil is already provided for in the resolution passed at the public meeting which states that the money shall be transferred to the Council as soon as a tender for the work is accepted by the Council. There is, therefore, no need for apprehension in this connection. It is hoped, therefore, that the Council will fall in with the wishes of the general public and have the baths constructed with the least possible delay.
