MANAWATU COUNTY COUNCIL
MONTHLY MEETING The Manawatu County Council met at Sanson yesterday, those present being:—Crs. AA> E. Barber, (chairman), J. Bovco, D. Reid,' 3. McKelvie and H. J. Fagan. CORRESPONDENCE.
The Railway Department which stating; that it could supply a velocipede for' £2l. —Resolved to purchase the vehicle.
District Engineer, New Zealand Railways, drawing attention to certain necessary work to he clone on the Sanson tramline. —Referred to the engineer for action. Moutoa Drainage Board, requesting payment of the £ls the Council agreed to pay towards the cost of the stopbank on Mr. AY. H. Smith’s property at Moutoa. —Passed for payment.
Mr. L. Fletcher, Marotiri, applying for permission to erect a gate across a by way known as Thynne’s Ridge.—Refused. The Madge Charabanc Motor Coy., Ltd., drawing attention to the dangerous position of a railway mile post on the Foxton road at Bainesse and urging action to remove the post; also drawing attention to the presence of lupin growing on the roadside which tended to damage the paint-work on motor vehicles. —Decided to refer the matter of the mile post to the Railway Department for action -'-4 and the question of removing the lupins was referred to the engineer. RATE ROLL ALTERATIONS. The following alterations to the rate roll was approved: —L. M. Frecklington to S. A. Hill (Sections 183, 184 and 185, Carnarvon); W. H. Oppatt to E. M. Jenkins (Lot 181, Township of Sanson); John Ellery to Geo. Ellery (Pt. BIk.XIV, Rangioto S.D.); AY;. Parrott to R. Kelso (Pt. Railway Reserve, Rangiotu); R. M. Pond to A. Malmanche (Lots 3.4, Pt. See 319, Carnarvon); M. A. AVishart to Hanita Tatana (Lot 53, Section 268, Bile. 1 Moutcre). TRAMWAY MANAGER'S, REPORT. The tramway manager reported as follows on the working of the tramway for the month of December: —The chief items of traffic for * the month were: —Grain, 36(1 tons; minerals and manure, 230 J tons; general merchandise, 54 tons; stock 63 trucks; metal, 167 trucks; eggs, 123 crates; wool, 244 hales; timber, 16,100 sup. feet. Fares amounted to £1 12s sd. The accounts show a debit balance of £ll6 3s 5d for the month’s working. The 9R” class engine came to hand in December and was put straight into commission. The “G” class engine will require a thorough overhaul, before it Can he used again.— Received. In order to ascertain the state of the Main Highways Construction Fund, the Main Highway Board requested the following information as r egards each highway in the Manawatu county on which a constrution subsidy has been voted: —(a), the actual cost for the*month of January, 1927; (b), the estimated expenditure for the months of February and March, 1927.—The Council will supply the information required. WIHROKING BRIDGE. In regard to -maintenance work on the AA r hirokino Bridge, the Public AVtorks Department notified of the £2OO (£1 for £1) authorised on October .29 last, £SO (£1 for £1) was for the maintenance and repair of the bridge. The chairman (Or. . Barber) pointed out that the £SO was allocated for painting the iron work on the bridge. It was decided to arrange for this work to be under : taken during the summer months.
