FOXTON HARBOUR BOARD.
MONTHLY MEETING. Tho montlliy meeting of the Foxton Harbour Board was held at Palmerston N. yesterday, when Mr J. Linklater, M.P., occupied the chair. Also present were Messrs E. If. B. Holben, J. A. Nash, ALP., T. J. Clapham, J. Chrystall and M. Mortensen. BEACH IMPROVEMENT COMMITTEE’S REPORT The Beach Improvement Committee reported that the debt had been cleared off the hall, leaving a credit balance of £l7 8/5. The income from the sports was £l3 better than 1925, and the hall receipts. about £6 less. The school rent was now a good asset, with the half-year amount to come. The committee planted a consignment of 10,000 young trees for the Harbour Board, the largest number in one lot. The committee had been in touch with the Harbour Board on various matters concerning the welfare of the Beach. Concerning the leases, any beach leaseholder could have his or her term of 33 years extended at any time fori 1.4 years, by applying to the, Harbour Board. The ladies’ bathing shed had been removed and re-erected near the signal station, also some conveniences for ladies and men had been provided. A new clay tennis court would lie ready for the holidays. The eoiamittee’s hearty thanks wore due to Capt. Larsen and Mr Alsop and other willing helpers for their valuable assistance.
Mr Nash expressed bis appreciation of the work carried out by the committee and the report was received. Members commented on the improvements made to the Beach. It was reported that the three inch artesian hove to provide a permanent water supply had been satisfactorily earned out at the cost of £122 4/-.
With a view to providing residents at tho Beach with a continuous water supply, it was decided that the Board ascertain its legal position in regard to the institution of a specal rating area. The object of the suggested rate was to erect a storage tank and purchase pumping geaT for reticulation, provided the residents required it. On receipt of the legal advice the Roaid decided to place the position before the annual meeting of the Beach Improvement Committee. CORRESPONDENCE Messrs Parkinson and Rasmussen wrote pointing out (hat they had put down a three inch artesian well at the Foxton Heads. —Received. The Acting Minister of Railways advised the chairman that, with reference to his representations regarding a special rate for goods exship at Foxton for Palmerston N., and stated that this matter had been given careful consideration and he had come to the conclusion that if a reduction was made it would not act in the interests of the Railway Department. —Received. GENERAL. The treasurer (Mr W. E. Barber) reported that the Public debt at the 30/9/20 was £16,000 and the loans authorised and raised was £IO,OOO. No rates had been struck and the total amount of sinking fund as at 31/12/25 was £712 14/-. Items of revenue receivable amounted to £2,220 10/5. —Received. The meeting closed with the chairman extending to the members the compliments of the season, and Mr J. A. Nash did similarly to the secretary (Mr Roore Rangiheuea).
