METHODIST SUNDAY SCHOOL.
JUBILEE CELEBRATIONS
The jubilee services in connection •with the above school concluded on Tuesday evening, The programme was curtailed, owing to the death of the late Mr W. Signal and Mrs H. Chalk, both of whom took a sympathetic interest in the anniversary services. The meeting of Tuesday ' night was presided over by the Mayor (Mr Perreau), an erstwhile scholar. ITe referred to the presence of Mr Edmund Osborne, who, for fifteen years officiated as Superintendent. Mr Osborne was greeted with a hearty round of applause and spoke in complimentary terms of the school, and referred to past experiences. Mr Osborne said he was proud of the fact that he could number among his old boys two Mayors namely, Mr <T. A. Nash, M.P., of Palmerston N. and Mr Perreau, of Foxton. Air Osborne then presented the prizes to the scholars, over sixty books being awarded. The secretary’s report and bal-ance-sheet. were read, which indicated that the school and its finances were in a healthy state. An apology was tendered for the unavoidable absence of the superintendent (Mr G. Huntley) and a graceful little tribute of esteem was paid on the part of the school in the presentation of a beautiful bunch of roses to bis wife by Nancy Chrystall. Votes of thanks were passed to all who had assisted in making the jubilee a success. Mrs Peryman’s work at. the organ and the training of the children in their items, and Mr R, T. Betty’s help in conducting the singing was much appreciated. Pleasure was expressed at the visits of the Rev. P. W. -Tones, who ,in spite of his eighty years,, and his fifty years of service in the cause of Methodism, has lost none of his old-time vigour; the Rev. -T. Southern and Mrs Southern. Visits were paid to tife school by old school associates and greetings were received from Palmerston N. and Rongotea. A jubilee tea was held and the scholars, together with parents and friends, had a good time. A special feature of the jubilee tea proceedings (previously held) was a huge birthday cake, presented to the school bv Mrs Peryman. It was decorated with fifty candles and Mi E. Osborne was called upon to light them. Miss M. Walker, being the only scholar present who had been attending the school in Mr Osborne’s time, cut the cake and Frank Cowley, one of the earliest members present to be entered on the Cradle Roll, handed it round. Cheers and clappings proclaimed the delight of the children and their gratitude to Mrs Peryman. Tho programme, was as follows: Prayer, Rev. Peryman; hymn, scholars; jubilee speech, Keith Chrystall; duet, Nancy and Keith Chrystall; duct, Dorothy and Joyce Rimmer; recitation, Nancy Chrystall; part song, “Gliding Thro’ the Meadows,” scholars; hymn, scholars; recitations {two) Clarice Hobbs; dialogue, senior scholars, “Adam and Eve and the Apples”; recitation, Robin Chrystall.
