BOWLING.

TRIANGULAR SHIELD CONTEST

The second round of the Triangular Shield contest was played at Levin yesterday afternoon, under conditions that made play somewhat unpleasant. Rain commenced to fall when about the eighth head had been played, and continued until after the afternoon tea adjournment. Play was consequently delayed, and when resumed light rain was still falling. The results of the day's contest were comparatively even over the eight rinks competing, the results being in doubt until .almost the last head in most cases. Levin were successful in winning the four games, nine points being the greatest margin between the scores of any two rinks. Christie put it]) a good tight against Suhan, the scores being- even after the twentieth head had been played, Suhan gaining the advantage on the final head by only one point. Thomson made a good showing up lil! the intervention of rain, having a lead of six points on the twelfth head. Bull drew up gradually thereafter, and finished four ahead on the twenty-first head. The following arc the details: — Pink, Cameron, Monks, Suhan (s) 14 v. Whibley, Newth, Mattar, Christie (s) 13. Lancaster, von Hartitzach, diallies, Bull (s) 19 v. Parkin, Walker, Huntley, Thomson (s) 15. Shannon, Sherwood, Brown, P. Clements (s) 18 v. Moynihan, Gunning, Clayton, Knowles (s) 15. Clements snr., Parker, Percy, Pike (s) 22 v. Mason, Butt, Spencer, Jones (s) 13. The aggregate scores for the two rounds are as follow: Shannon (six rinks), 119 points; Levin (six links), 118; Foxton (four rinks), 56. The averages per rink to dale • are:—Shannon, 19 5-6 points; Levin, 19 2-3 points; Eoxton, 14 points. The final round will lie played at Eoxton after the New Year, when the local Club will put- four rinks in the field. The figures show that Eoxton will require to average six points per rink more than Shannon or Levin to gain the trophy this year.
