The Palmerston X. Hospital Board has appointed Messrs J. I\. Hornblow and J. Vincent as the Board’s representatives at tire annual conference of Hospital Boards to be hold at Christchurch early next rear.

Mr George Andrews, of Ashburton, is a visitor to Foxton, the guest of Mr P. W. Brown. Mr Andrews was born in Nelson 78 years ago, and has resided in Ashburton for 59 years. He is still hale and hearty and takes a keen interest in public affairs.

Last night, at Levin, ihe beauty competition was concluded and Miss Gertrude Edlin, late of Foxton, was adjudged the winner by popular vote. The next choice fell upon Miss Williams. Miss Edlin and her maid of honour, was presented during an interval at the Town Hall last night and was given a flattering reception by the Foxton audience. Mr Iv. Aitken, of Levin, with a grace befitting the Court of Louis XIV, presented the charming young lady, who by the way, is a cousin of Miss Mona Stevenson, queen of the recent Foxton carnival. The news of the death of Mi' Fox will be received. with regret by his many friends and acquaintances in the Manawatu, where he lived for so many years. A man of considerable ability and energy, he took an active part in any movement with which he became connected. Coming to New Zealand in .1904, he was first engaged as a curate in Foxton, and married while here. After the war, in which he served the British cause honourably, Mr Fox took a prominent part in theR.S.A. movement, and finally settled down to farming pursuits at Aorangi. He look an active part in the Farmers’ Dairy Union, and was for a time organiser of that body.
