AGRICULTURAL COLLEGE LEAGUE
MANAWATU COUNTY’S VIEWS. After the reading of a letter from the North Island Agricultural College League concerning the League's aims and objects, and seeking financial help, at Tuesday’s meeting of the Manawatu County Council, the chairman (Cr. W. E. Barber), who bad been appointed a member of the Executive of the League, asked the Council for a mandate.
Cr. IT. J. Fagan: What do they want? Support for the League, or financial assistance? The chairman: It is for you to say.
Cr. J. Boyce: Give them our moral support, hut financial assistance, no. Cr. F. Pearce questioned the need for any such League. In his opinion the League was only going to cause friction between the two Islands. If Palmerston North was the right, place the College should be there, but if Lincoln College was the more suitable it should be there. Cr. J. McKelvie: Palmerston North has not got the College yet, and I think that the chairman should have an open mind on the matter.
The Council decided not to instruct the chairman, but to await his report of. the meeting of delegates.
