TENDERS TO BE CALLED. One of the subjects discussed at the conference between the Mariawatu County Council and Highways Board on Wednesday was that dealing with the urgent need for rebuilding the Shannon bridge over the Manawatu. river, at Moutoa. The Chairman of the Highways Board (Mr McKenzie) stated that the plans of the bridge had been finally approved and instructions bad been issued for the calling of for the work without delay. The question of the construction of roads to the new site of the bridge was also considered, and the council was promised that authority for this portion of the work to be gone on with would lie given as soon as possible. The working of the Shannon punt was also brought up for discussion and the board agreed to allow the council to make a charge for ferry services outside the usual hours. A schedule of charges is to be submitted to the board before the arrangement is enforced.
