FOXTON TENNIS CLUB.

NEW GREENS TO BE OPENED ON SATURDAY. On Saturday afternoon at 2.30 pan.. the Foxton Tennis Club will open the season, and, incidentally, their new courts. Saturday will be something of a. red letter day in the history of the local club. Heretofore the Club has only possessed two asphalt courts, situated in Ravenswortli Place, but an energetic committee this year decided to go in for grass courts with the result that a suitable section was purchased at the corner of Johnston St. and Avenue Road, laid out by experts, netting erected, and the result is that on Saturday the Club will commence the season with five new grass courts in excellent condition. The Club is deserving of considerable praise for its enterprise. The newly acquired ground is ... ideal for tennis courts. On the north is a natural grandstand for the public with the courts lying north and south on the hat below. The Committee intends to lay down flower plots as time goes on and in the near future the grounds should be one of the beauty spots of the town. A cordial invitation is extended to the public to be present at the opening of the courts at 2.30 o’clock on Saturday when visitors will be present from all parts of the district. The President (Mr R. McMur- • ray) has arranged with the Palmerston N. Club to bring some of its most prominent members down to the opening, amongst whom will be Andrews, the second best player in New Zealand, and who did better than any other New Zealander in Australia. The Foxton Silver Band will be in attendance, and given a fine day, a very' enjoayble time is assured. The club membership is now 90.
