STRANGE MARKS ON CORPSE.
CAUSE OF DEATH DOUBTFUL. Whnngarei, Deeemb. 1. A rfOii'Pfl farmer named Thomas Forsyth, a single man (aged 50 years), was found dead in a ereek near the Whangarei Falls bridge seslerday. Dis head and shoulders were submerged in thirteen inches of water. Deceased’s coat and two walking sticks were in a position which suggested that he had collapsed when stooping to obtain a drink from the stream. A gold watch and chain, cash of over £(i, and a cheque For €l7 were found in the pockets of his clothing. Though drowning was lirst supposed to he the cause of death, marks on the neck, as though made by a rope were observed when the body was examined at the morgue. Forsyth had suffered from acute rheumatism for a number of years, and had to rely on walking sticks when moving about. He was last seen alive on Monday, but no anxiety was felt, as it was thought that he was visiting relatives. An imprest was opened this morning, hut was adjourned for a week in view of the complicated circumstances.
