WATER SUPPLY FOR THE BEACH.
MR. J. A. NASH’S MOVE. Mr J. A. Nash brought up a matter of vital importance to the Foxton Beach at yesterday’s meeting of the Foxon Harbour Board. He said he was very keen about a water supply for beach residents if the flow of the artesian bore, at present under construction at the Heads, proved satisfactory He suggested that if sufficient money could he raised, and he had no doubt that it could by public subscription, the Board should put down three or four water mains, radiating at different angles from the bore, and so arranged as to .serve jail parts ; of the beach. Beach residents could then connect up their houses with a permanent and good supply of water, which would be the making of the beach. Taps could be placed in the mains at intervals, for the convenience of the visiting public. ■Mr Chrystall said that power would be necessary to deliver the water into the mains in any quantity. Mr Barber suggested a ~ WATER TOWER. AH Nash, in further outlineing his scheme, said that he knew of quite a number of residents who were prepared to pay for a permanent water supply at the Beach. The scheme would not, cost them more than £2 or £3 per head per annum. The Chairman said Mi’ Nash’s scheme was a great idea and one that should receive the consideration of the Board. Mr Holben said that if a good flow was obtained from the bore at present under construction! a storage tank could be erected on the hill at the rear of the well and the water gravitated from this into (he mains. He favoured a wateij rate, however, as there would be certain extensions, repairs and maintenance to undertake as time went by. Mr Chrystall said that mechanical means would be necessary to raise any quantity of water from the bore. A 1 0r.2 h.p. motor would do the work easily. Mr Nash said a minimum charge of 10/- per householder would bring in a revenue of over £IOO per annum. He would like to see the work done before Christmas and with this object in view he suggested that the matter be left in the hands of J. Chrystall. This was agreed to and Mi’ Chrystall will submit a report to the next meeting of the Board, to be held in Palmerston N. on December 20tb.
