CROQUET.
A general meeting of the Foxton Croquet Club was held in the Bowling Club pavilion on Saturday afternoon Inst, Mrs Bryant (President) presiding. Also present were Mesdames Woods, Ball, McMurray, J. Downes, Moore, Barr and the secretary (Mrs Owen). Apologies for absence were received from Mesdames Huntley, Pearson, Perreau, Pnrkes, and Miss Speirs. Correspondence was received from the Manawatu Association in connection with the first round of the inter-club matches. Foxon Club will play its first match on December Ifith, against Terrace End, on the Manawatu green. A letter was also received from Mrs Woods suggesting that one day a week he set aside for competitions for the Stewart Shields and Nve Mallets.
It was pointed out that for the past few years very little interest had' been taken in these trophies. After a good deal of discussion it was decided that for the next four weeks each Monday he a competition day for these trophies, the first game on each.day to start not later than 2 W’elodk and to finish not later than 4.30; the competitions to alternate in order of precedence. A holder of either of these trophies who is unable to play may nominate a substitute. The results of yesterday’s matches are: — Stewart Shields^ —Mesdames F. Woods and Ball (holders) lost to Mesdames Owen and Moore, 19 —2fi. Mesdames McMurray and Downes (holders) lost to Mesdames M. Perreau and Bryant, 15 —23.
