RAILWAYS ADOPT SOCIALIST SYSTEM.
GETTING IN CLOSER TOUCH WITH THE PEOPLE. DISTRICT ADVISORY BOARDS TO BE FORMED. / At Thursday night’s Chamber of Commerce meeting, Air Stanley, N.Z. Railways Business Agent touched briefly on the proposed formation of Advisory Boards in connection with the N.Z. Railways. “People,” he said, “will be educated to the Railway point of view through these boards. It is proposed to form four such boards in New Zealand. Foxton would go in with Wellington. A committee would be set up in Foxton which would deal with all railway matters and forward any matters of importance on to the District Advisory Board in Wellington, which, in turn, would deal with the matter. The formation of a local committee would probably be left to the Chamber of Commerce to take the initial steps. Such a committee should, however, be as representative as possible. The scheme was the outcome of a desire on the part of the Minister for Railways to get into closer touch with the people and to obtain their co-operation and patronage of their own concern —the Railways.”
