FEUDING SLAUGHTERMEN SUPPORT STRIKE.
WILL NOT WORK UNDER PRESENT AWARD. Contrary to the statements of some of the slaughtermen in Feeding that they intended to offer themselves for work when the local freezing season opened, a well-at-tended meeting of the Feilding branch of the Slaughtermen’s Union held on Tuesday night resolved to support, the attitude of the Hawke’s Bay men by refusing tr accept engagement under the existing nward. An official of the Union supplied (he following report: “It was decided to support the Hawke’s Bay men in their demands for a living wage. “It was further resolved that the congratulations and appreciation of: the Feilding members be conveyed to the Hawke’s Bay men in their just claims and the firm stand taken by them.” Beyond the above statement, no further information was available as to the tenor of the meeting, or of any further intentions of the men. WORKS TO OPEN ON TUESDAY. The management of the Feilding Farmers’ Freezing Cov. announced yesterday that it was proposed to open the works on Tuesday next, November 23rd.
