MAORI TOURING TEAM.
DEFEATED BY GLOUCESTERSHIRE BY PENALTY GOAL.
London, November 10. The Maori tonring' team was defeated by Gloucestershire by three points to nil. Gloucestershire won by a penalty goal. The match was played at Bristol before 12,000 spectators. The ground was very heavy with torrential rain, which in the second half, prevented accurate passing and gathering. The result flattered Gloucestershire, who were assisted by the internationals Voyce and Tucker. They had more of the play in the first half, but the Maoris were later superior in actual play, and territorially, although they made the mistake of neglecting their fine scoring wings, Phillips and* Falwasser in the first half, when the hall was comparatively dry. Falwasser made two magnificent runs in vain, and also lost a last-minute chance of a try, by endeavouring to score between the posts instead of running straight on. The forwards struggled dourly, and there was little to choose between the packs. Millner, the Gloucestershire scrum-half, was penalised at the. base of the serum eight times," but the Maoris’ kicks failed. Millington kicked Gloucester's penalty goal after half-an-hour’s play. Pelham, Lowe, Wineera, Haupapa and Olsen were the most prominent in the team, which was as follows: —Falwasser, Lockwood, Phillips, Mete, Wineera, Love, Haupapa, Olsen, Stewart, S. Gemmell, Rika, Tatana Manihera, Pelham, and Robinson. FRANCO-BRITISH TOUR. November 18 —East Midlands. November 20 —London County. November 24—-Hampshire. December I—Lancashire.1 —Lancashire.
