MANAWATU-OROUA RIVER BOARD.
MONTHLY MEETING. At the monthly meeting of the Manawatu-Oroua River Board held at Palmerston North yesterday, there were present Messrs W. Carter (in the chair), A. Akers, B. G. Gower, J. Richardson, H. Wilton, J. E. C. Harrison and A. Seifert. The Public Works Department wrote) in reply to the Board’s memo of the 23rd October, which stated that the Board would supervise and control the expenditure of the monies subscribed by local bodies and the settlers, and also the Government subsidy. The Department intimated that this would be acceptable, but, before advising the local bodies' concerned, the Department mentioned that the cost of engineering and supervision would be a charge against the Board, as these were not a charge against any monies found by the Government. The Board had already been advised regarding its liability as to the position by the Department of Internal Affairs. —-Received. A letter was received from.the Manawatu Drainage Board, stating that a meeting held on the 6th September last, it bad been resolved that a contribution up to £-200 should he made to the cost of repairing the flood- banks on the Oroua, providing the ratepayers found £1 for £1 and the Government granted a subsidy amounting to half the cost —Received. The specifications in regard to the repairing of the flood-banks of the Oroua were discussed at length by the Board. Two contractors waited on the Board in order to ascertain the exact requirements. It was resolved to hold the tenders over for a week, when a committee consisting of Messrs Wilton, HaiTison, Akers and Nielsen would deal with them.
