VICE-REGAL VISIT

TO MANAWATU SHOW. Their Excellencies Sir Charles and Lady Alice Fergusson, attended the Manawatu Show at Palmerston yesterday. Their Excellencies arrived shortly after midday, and were met at the station by citizens and repi’e--sentatives of. the A. and P. Association, who accompanied the ViceRegal visitors to the showgrounds, where they were entertained at dinner. Mr. .T. A. Nash r M.P., presented His Excellency with an address in terms of cordial welcome. “I have to thank you very much indeed for presenting me with this address, and foil the very kind welcome you have given Her Excellency and myself,” said Sir Charles in reply. “We would certainly have attended the Show of the Manawatn A. and P. Association long before this had it been possible to do so but there arc so many calls upon our time and so many other shows that it was not possible for me to have done so earlier.” Tt is therefore a great pleasure to us that we have been afforded the opportunity of visit inng tbis, rthe • premier, '-how of its kind, in New Zealand.” He went on to say that Her Excellency and himself were very much touched by the reference to their unrents; the speaker’s father, during his term' in New Zealand, was "reatly impressed with the possibilities of this country.

“T do wish, that the people of the Dominion could realise how personally interested they are in these agricultural shows, because the wealth and prosperity of the country is so closely connected with the access of the show fixtures,” conlinued Sir Charles Fergusson. “If 'hev only realised this they would lend every support to the shows.” In the evening Their Excellencies -ere entertained af dinner, when there was a representative attendance. Their Excellencies departed later for Auckland by the Limited express.
