ALL SAINTS’ CHURCH.
JUBILEE SERVICES. The jubilee services in connection with All Saints’ Church, were held on Sunday and last evening. The seating accommodation at both the evening services was quite inadequate. Last night there were a number of visiting clergy present from adjoining parishes, including two former vicars, viz., the Veil. Archdeacon Innes-Jones and the Rev. Wilson, of Paraparaumu. The choir was augmented last night by members of the choirs from adjoining parishes. The singing by the combined choristers was very inspiring and the service of praise was appropriate to the occasion. The lessons were read by the Revs. Wilson and J. C. Arnold (Terrace End). An eloquent sermon was preached by the Ven. Archdeacon In-nes-Jones from the words: “I was glad when they said unto me, Let us go into the/ House of the Lord. .
. . . Whither the tribes go up, the tribes of the Lord, unto the testimony!, of Israel, to give thanks unto the name of the Lord.” (Psalm 122 verses one and four). The preacher said he was pleased to be present at the jubilee celebrations and to join with them in praise and thanksgiving. Thirty-six years ago, when Foxton was part of the parish which included Greatford, Bulls, Sandon, and Rongotea, he was privileged to minister here so that he could call many present old friends. In this connection he referred to Mr A. S. Easton, who for the past forty-six years, had held office as churchwarden — : a record for the province They joined in thanksgiving to God for ail the blessings of the past. The preacher then dealt with the necessity for public worship and a regular attendance. He also dealt with the excuses people made for nonattendance at public worship. Their duty as Christians was to acknowledge God in the presence of others and so testify before men in praise and thanksgiving. They came to church not so much to hear a special preacher, but to worship. He deprecated present day indifference, which was sapping the life blood of the church. The preacher concluded by making an appeal to those present to assemble together to partake of the Holy Sacrament and for praise and thanksgiving. Mrs Jackson presided at the organ and the offertory was devoted to the choir funds. At the conclusion of the very impressive service, the visiting clergy choir, representatives of other denominations and others were entertained at supper in the school hall. The vicar expressed thanks on behalf of himself and vestry for the assistance rendered by the visiting clergy and choristers in the jnbilee celebrations. The Mayor (Mr M. E. Perreau) extended civic congratulations and greetings and good wishes were voiced by the Rev. Mr Peryman on behalf of the Methodists and Mr J. K. Hornblow, on behalf of the Presbyterians. A bountiful supper was .supplied by the ladies of the congregation. This evening the children will be entertained at tea in the schoolroom. The services throughout have been of a very inspiring nature.
