ACCIDENT AT WHIROKINO BRIDGE.
At about midday on Sunday Mr .J. Allerby, of Foxton, was proceeding 'towards Levin on horseback. When leaving the Whirokino Bridge, he noticed a service car approaching and, as the bridge approach was narrow, with rails on either side, lie dismounted and was in the act of leading the horse to the side rail about a chain and a-lialf down from the bridge, when a car, approaching from Foxton, crashed into the rear of the, horse. The bridle was jerked out of Mr Allerby’s hand and car and horse skidded about fifteen feet down the road, Mr Allerby miraculously escaping injury. The horse sustained a broken leg and had to he destroyed. Fortunately the service car was a chain or so away at the time of the collision. Had the accident occurred a few seconds -later, with the service car involved, a serious collision would have resulted. .
