BAZAAR

The bazaar, organised by the Sports Queen Carnival committee and held in the Masonic Hall yesterday afternoon and evening, was well patronised. The interior of the hall/was divided up into stalls, well laden with saleable goods, which found ready purchasers and a good clearance was effected. The bazaar was opened by Mr ,1. Linklater, M.P., who was formally introduced by the Mayor. Mr Linklater congratulated those responsible for the excellent display of goods and hoped as a result, that the funds being raised for the public swimming baths, would be materially augmented. |Hk made special reference to the local seaside resort for bathing and swimming and suggested that the local swimming club should give an exhibition of life-saving, etc. at the seaside. The Harbour Board was anxious to safeguard the safety ot) the public at the Beach, and had provided a reel for life-saving purposes, but something should be done to make those efficient who were to use it. He referred to the seaside as a valuable asset to Foxton and declared the bazaar open for business. Besides the stalls, there were several side-shows and competitions. The Borough Band, under the eondnetorship of Mr H. Osborne, rendered a number of selections outside the hall during the evening. The stalls were in charge of the following:—Mesdames Stevenson and Cook and Miss M. Patterson: nfternon tea.; Mrs Barron and Miss I. Patterson, work-stall; Mesdames Roore and Rand and Miss Haydock calces and sweets; Mrs Wright and Miss K. Roore, produce and flowers. “Aunt Sally” was in charge of the inimitable “Harry” Hutchins. Miss M. Stevenson had charge of the “fairy well.” The committee desire to sincerely thank all who rendered assistance The competition winners were: ■ Maggie Smith (chocolates) and Mrs Ogilvy (dinner). “Madame Ivanovitch” and! her page (Bruce Boswell) conducted the “mystic corner” and Messrs Rogers and Coulter were kept busy with (lie chocolate spinner.
