With a view to re-forming the defunct Shannon Cricket Club, a meeting of cricket enthusiasts was held in Shannon last Wednesday evening, Mr G. Hemmingsen being elected to the chair. It was resolved that a deputation comprising Messrs Hemmingsen, Bishop, Newth and Crawford wait on the Borough Council at their meeting on Tuesday evening with a request that the Council assist them to put down a concrete cricket pitch at the Domain, the Council to provide the material and the deputation to find the labour. It was decided to write to the Horowhenua Cricket Association, notifying that. Shannon will enter a team, providing their request for a pitch is granted by the Borough Council. It was also decided to ask that all their matches in the first round, if they take part be played away from home, as the pitch would not be suitable for playing on for a few weeks. It was decided to meet again on Wednesday evening when everything will be definitely decided in regard to re-forming the Club. TWO DIVISION'S FORMED. With the advent of the Phoenix Club in Levin and the possibility that Foxton will field what are virtually town and country teams, together with the probable revival of the Shannon Club, cricketers throughout the Horowhenua discussed the problem of splitting the area into two districts, northern and southern. The Management Committee of the Horowhenua Criekef Association discussed the situation, it being finally decided to divide the competition into two divisions: —Southern, comprising Levin, Weraroa, Otaki and Paraparaumu; Northern, consisting of Phoenix, Shannon and the two teams from Foxton. The suggestion,'of a North v. South match at the close of each round is a commendable one, and will give the required stimulus to cricket in both sections, and assist in maintaining the interest of both players and public alike.
