We have just received the following latest novels from the publishers (Messrs Ilodder and Stoughton Ltd).:— “THE DESERT THROUGHBRED,” By Jackson Gregory. In Jackson Gregory’s new story two lonely souls find one another after much adventure and tribulation. Bereft of her sordid protectors, innocent Camilla Darrel is driven into Mexicali, where she is befriended by softspoken “PapaPom.” But this proves to be the fire from the frying pan. In her hour of need, Lasallc —outcast from liis/ fellow men for a supposed murder—rescues her from the “Hell triplets,”: Norlin, Somnvia and the sinister lawyer Snell, likewise his own enemies. Camilla flees into the desert and, is followed by Snell and Lasalle overtakes her and takes her to his homestead. Followed to his ranch by the “Hell triplets,” Lasalle once more conies within an 'ace of paying for the old murder. The eleventh hour denouement which saves Lasalle and the part played by his only friend, blind old Todd — “that very dirty window” through which the light of God occasionally shone —is too good to give away. “THE VOICE OF DA SHIN,” By “Ganpat” A fresh, fascinating book of adventure and action, picturesquely and vividly set in the Hinterlands of the Karakorum. In plot and in scene this travelled author departs from the beaten track. His City of Fairy Towers, fantastic though gruesome, the delightfully colloquial relations of the two young British olfijccrs who find their way thither, an unusual love interest (and all of it set off with a capital sense of fun), these are some of the elements in an up-to-date adventurous romance of an unusual character.
