ROAD CYCLE RACING.

KNOTT PUTS UP GREAT PERFORMANCE.

The Foxion Amateur Cycling Club’s usual weekly road race was held yesterday evening. The course was a 15 mile one (twice round the Cemetery block and four times round the Johnston St. block). A large number of people gathered in Main St. to witness the event. The handicaps were ns follows: — Parfitt and E. Coley, 41 min; I. Wright, R. Barry 2tnin; H. Huff 1.5 min; J. Smith, J. Gupweil lmin; E. Cunninglmme Iflscc; P. Honour, D. Satherlcy,, G. Coley 30sccs; C. Huff 25sec; C. Shortt and D. Knott scr.

All got away well. N. Huff dropped out in the first round with a puncture, while G. Coley and Parfitt crashed. Parfitt pluckily continued the race, however. I. Wright dropped out. j! Knott astounded the public with an excellent performance and had no difficulty in winning the race by a good third of a mile. Shortt ran into second place. Smith and Cunninghame fought out a great finish for third place, the former just winning by a foot. H. Huff, D. Satherley, J. Gupweil and P. Honour came’ in in that order a consul? erable time after the placed men. In the last lap Knott led from Shortt by I.4omin. and did the, last lap (1 mile) in 3.l9min. Knott completed the 15 miles in 38min 35sec, two minutes; faster than it has ever been done before locally. The course was very bad, having a considerable amount of loose metal on it.

G. Coley laid a protest againt Knott crossing in front of him, but after hearing the evidence, the committee did not alter the result but severely cautioned Knott.
