All got away well. N. Huff dropped out in the first round with a puncture, while G. Coley and Parfitt crashed. Parfitt pluckily continued the race, however. I. Wright dropped out. j! Knott astounded the public with an excellent performance and had no difficulty in winning the race by a good third of a mile. Shortt ran into second place. Smith and Cunninghame fought out a great finish for third place, the former just winning by a foot. H. Huff, D. Satherley, J. Gupweil and P. Honour came’ in in that order a consul? erable time after the placed men. In the last lap Knott led from Shortt by I.4omin. and did the, last lap (1 mile) in 3.l9min. Knott completed the 15 miles in 38min 35sec, two minutes; faster than it has ever been done before locally. The course was very bad, having a considerable amount of loose metal on it.
G. Coley laid a protest againt Knott crossing in front of him, but after hearing the evidence, the committee did not alter the result but severely cautioned Knott.
