On Wednesday, November 3, their Excellencies have arranged to visit Palmerston N. for the Manawatu Agricultural and Pastoral Association’s Show, after which they will proceed to Auckland, where they will go into residence at Government House.

There passed away at the Home of Compassion, Island Bay, Wellington, on Friday, Rev. Mother Mary Joseph Aubert, founder of the. Home of Compassion, aged 01 years. With (he passing of the Rev. Mother Mary Joseph Aubert, the Dominion loses one of the most remarkable figures in the life of the past sixty years. A pioneer in the service of charity and devotion to the maimed and crippled and the sick and poor, her work in the city of Wellington has left such monuments as the Home of Compassion, at Island Bay, and memories of loving care and kindness to (lie afflicted that will never lie forgotten. Born near Lyons, France, in 1835, Mother Aubert came out to New Zealand in 1860, arriving at Auckland. With her were three companions, none of them then belonging to any religious order, but all inspired with the ‘desire for service in the life of a new country. They were members of a pioneer mission led by Bishop Pompallier, one of the founders of the Church in New Zealand.
