METHODIST CHURCH CONCERT

Although “spring showers that bring summer flowers,” were in evidence on Thursday last, the' evening saw an excellent attendance at the Masonic Hall, when a Palmerston N. concert party, under the direction of Mr 11. T. Pitcher, gave a delightful entertainment in aid of the Foxton Methodist) circuit funds. The programme was most pleasantly varied, ranging from grave to gay, from lively to severe. Most of Ihe items were, not altogether new to a Foxton audience, and for the most part were all the more enjoyable for that reason. Miss Flatt and Miss Killick made efficient accompanists, Miss Killick (soprana) and Miss Common (contralto) being the lady soloists. Both ladies were in excellent voice and had to respond to encores. Messrs Pitcher and Houston were the male soloists. Both gentlemen acquitted themselves well, the latter singer being hailed as a former favourite at Foxton. In addition to solos, the party at intervals rendered duets, and also a quartette and quintette. Miss Killick and Mr Pitcher were •it (heir best in their rendering of “Money Matters,” which brought them a well-deserved recall. Mr Houston was the elocutionist of the company, and caused much merriment in his impersonation of “parson” and “aristocrat.” It fell to the lot of Mr Marehant to appear as the “Valentine Vox” of the evening, and right well did lie carry out

his part. It j is common to hear ventriloquists imitate two voices in their reproductions, but this performer went one better than that. 'Mr Marehant may be sure of a good reception should he ever visit Foxion again.

The members of the company were accorded a very hearty vote of thanks, by applause, at the call of the chairman. The National Anthem brought an excellent programme to a close.
