Whilu M’efo (“Moses”) the local representative of the Maori touringfootball team, writing to the editor of this paper, under date August 20th, says that he is well, “in fact, I have put on about four pounds since I left Foxton.” The writer also sends a Ceylon paper containing a report of tiie match v. All Ceylon, in which the Maoris were victorious by 35 points to six.
An old settler of the Rangitikei, Mrs Elizabetli Ann McDonell, of Parewamii, and later of Rongotea, passed away on Wednesday (states an exchange). The deceased lady was born in Lower Rangitikei in 1858, and was the second daughter of the Late George and Selina Wheeler, who were amongst the earliest settlers of the district. She married Archibald McLean McDonell, the eldest son of the late .James and Ann McDonell, of “Inverlioe,” Lower Rangitikei, and a direct descendant of the Glengarry clan. The deceased was a. lady beloved by all. She was of a bright and cheerful disposition, charitable, and always ready to assist those in need. Her husband predeceased- her about nine years ago.
