ENTERTAINMENTS.

ROYAL PICTURES. To-morrow evening a Truat picture entitled ‘A Call in The Night,” will be screened* at the Royal Theatre. The title alone sounds thrilling, and as Truat turns out some very thrilling Western pictures, patrons at the Royal to-morrow evening may look for something extra in this line. There is also a comedy of unusual title —“Hell Froze Over.” On Friday evening “Confessions of a Queen” will be screened. Mighty in its power, magnificent in its settings, Victor Seastrom’s dynamic drama, featuring Alice Terry, Lewis Stone and John Bowers, should attract a bumper house on Friday. The picture is a Metro Goldwyn production. As an extra “Wolves of the North” will be screened, besides a good comedy. Usual prices will be charged.

JOSEPH CONRAD’S “LORD JIM.”

Joseph Conrad recognised master of sea stories, is translated faithfully to the screen in “Lord Jim,” the big picture at the Town Hall on The tang of the sea, the lure of the tropics, the mixing of races, the seething sea ports of the Orient —all are seen in “Lord Jim.” From the Oriental port of Samarang, where a blow is dealt to the ideals of Jim, the young Englishman, to the tropic island where he gains his self esteem as Lord Jim, is the range of the picture. Percy Marmont gives a great screen characterisation ns the idealistic young Englishman, Jim. Noah Beery, as the rascally sea captain, and Raymond Hatton, the thieving trader, are excellent. Shirley Mason is also well cast. Fred Thompson and his horse, Silver King, appear on Friday in “The Fighting Sap.”
