CROQUET.

A general meeting of the Foxton Croquet Club was held in the Bowling Club pavilion yesterday afternoon, for Ihe purpose of considering questions of importance affecting (he welfare of Ihe Club during (he playing season now near at hand. Mrs R. Bryant (president) occupied the chair. Also present were Mcsdames M. E. Perreau, J. M. Barr, R. McMurray, R. Moore, E. Ball, R. Parkes, C. Pearson, 11. Downes, E. Huntley and the secretary, Mrs Owen. Apologies for absence were received from Mrs, F. Woods, Misses Speirs, Wanklyn and J. Ross.

A motion of sympathy was passed to the Misses Speirs and family in their recent bereavement.

Correspondence was read from the Otaki, Feilding and Shannon clubs, extending an invitation to the local club to be present at their respective openings.

Arrangements were made for the opening day, which was fixed for October 6th.

It was decided to .organist several competitions for which the club would provide trophies. The competitions decided on were hitting the peg, cut off, zig-zag, and golf croquet. It was decided to obtain a new hall lo complete the three sets required. Mrs McMurray, club delegate to thd annual meeting of the Manawa(u Croquet Association, Palmerston X.. briefly reported on the business transacted at the meeting.

The question of raising- funds for improvements was discussed and it was decided to accept Mrs C. A. Pearson’s offer to allow- the cro-quet-club, together with the tennis club, to have on alternate Tuesdays, progressive live hundred evenings at her residence. The members were drawn into three groups to carry out these evenings, as follows: No. 1 group: Mesdames Pearson, Woods, Downs, Ball and Miss Ross; No. 2: Mesdames Bryant, Owen, McMurray, Huntley, and Mjss Wanklyn; No. 3: Mesdames Perreau, Moore, Ball, Parkes, and Miss Speirs. The first evening is to be held on October I<J.

A hearty vote of thanks was accorded Mi-' M. E. Perreau, president of the Bowling Club, for the donation of a trophy for the coming sea-

son. The meeting terminated with the usual compliment to the cliaii.
