A PROPHESY THAT CAME TRUE

[Reprinted jfrom the “Manawatu Herald," September 17th., 1880.] “At a banquet given to Mr Seddon on Friday night (September 17th, 1880) at Kumar a, Mr John White is reported in the local paper to have thus spoken, in responding to the toast of “The Alining Interest”: He (Air White) had been accused of sometimes seeing into futurity, and, acting on that peculiar gift, he would predict that in five years from hence Air Seddon would be Premier of New Zealand. (Laughter and applause). In the year 1845 a most wonderful planet appeared, and, on consulting his horoscope, he found that was the year of All' Seddon’s birth. If they would go back to the discovery of Kumara, they would find that it was five years ago, and, in fact the numeral V was the most extraordinary number. From calculations he had made, Mr Seddon would burst forth and astonish the world in the same year this planet gathered all stars of lesser magnitude about it, and that would be in the year 1885. (Laughter). On behalf of the mining community,. he thanked them heartily for the manner in which the toast had been received.” Poor White! We fear his estimate of planets and premiers are wide*, of the mark, and that his waiting for the “bursting forth to the astonishment of the world” will end in disappointment. —West. Coast Times.”
