RACING

Referring' to the Foxton-owned Labour Morn’s victory in the Hack Steeplechase, at the Mar ton meeting this week, the Standard’s sporting scribe states that at the drop of the flag, Woden went to the front from Labour Morn, Uncle Dave and Santiago bringing up the rear. The quartette raced at two lengths intervals for a period, but passing through the straight on the second round, Labour Morn, who was fencing well, took the lead and opened up a gap along the back, Uncle Dave and Santiago being next, Woden having dopped back. The rider of Labour Morn kept at his mount for the last half mile and, although Santiago put in a challenge in the straight, he could not overtake the leader who passed the judge’s box with three lengths to the good, Uncle Dave being twelve lengths back, with Woden still further back. Time 4.11 2-5.

Labour Morn is owned hv Mr F. Carmont, and was ridden by J. Proctor.

The successful jockeys at the fixture were:—B. 11. Morris, 3 wins; A. McDonald, 21; L. 6. Morris, C. W. France, R. J. Mackie,.L. A. Pine, A. Tinker, J. Monkley, V. Carroll, T. Tito, J. Proctor, A. Brown and Mr J. Morris one each and H. Gordon L The successful trainers were:— F. J. Carmont (Foxton), F.’Lind (Wanganui), and F. C. F. McKay (Marton) each trained two winners at the meeting, while F. R. Waller (Awapuni) secured a win and a dead hef|t with Rangi Sarto. Trainers of one winner were: J. Donovan (Taradale), H. H. Doyle (Awapuni), W. Pine (Hawera), G. Seifert (Hamilton), T. Lloyd (Woodville), L. G. Paul (Wanganui), Wl D. Young (Trentham), R. Brough (Hawera), and J. Hastie (Bulls), while 0. Cox (Hawera) was the trainer of Enare, who dead heated with Rangi Sarto in the First Hack Hurdles on Wednesday.
